Absence

Clearly I am drawn to abandoned places. I am drawn to these places for more than one reason.
  1. They are really really cool. I know this is the Photo 1 student answer, but that doesn't make it any less true!
  2. These places have a totally unknown history to me. I can only make up things that have happened, and the only information I have is what the space tells me.
  3. Human beings are WASTEFUL!!!! It blows my mind how many of these places actually exist. We create these buildings, use them, and when we are done with them we just move to a new piece of land. We don't bother tearing it down, and making the land usable again. It is crazy to me.
  4. The idea of photographing humans with the absence of humans fascinates me. Clearly there have been people here, and we know this by what they have left behind. It's almost like this is a portrait of all the people that have passed through here, but they have not physical forms.

This is a shot of New York City. I call it Street of Fire. This one is a photograph of millions of people!

This one is just pretty. And a total accident. But I shouldn't say that out loud.

The Soft Self vs. The Fierce Self

In this series I sat down with each model and explained to them that in the first image, they would be wearing white, and flower crowns. I wanted them to pose for when they feel the  most beautiful and happy. This is how they feel they look when they are most relaxed, and have the best attitudes. The second they would be doing head shots with holi powder on their faces. Each model was given a variety of colors, and they each chose their own color. As they were choosing a color I explained to them this image needs to express when you feel the most powerful. This image is when you are fierce!
